New Judge Dredd movie in the pipeline
2nd May 04
Introduced into the comic world (issue 2 of 2000AD) in 1977 by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, Judge Dredd has grown from strength to strength, inspiring many comic stories, crossovers, novels, computer games and the 1995 (dismal) movie Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone.
It was announced in May last year that Shoreline Entertainment (in association with Rebellion/2000AD) had begun pre-production on two Dredd films - Judge Dredd: Dredd Reckoning and Judge Dredd: Possession - that were to be filmed back-to-back.
These scripts have been abandoned now that I Am The Law Productions are working with Framework and Rebellion/2000AD on a single new Dredd film.
The screenplay is currently in development, and I Am The Law have a director in mind, although nothing is being revealed for the moment (although eatmybrains do have a good idea who they are targeting to helm the film).
Silvio Astarita, one of the producers of the film talked to comicbookresources and revealed that the film will:
"be dark, more like The Crow with the look of Blade Runner, but dark comedy must have a role in Dredd's world."
More news as we get it.
More Information
Director of the original film, Danny Cannon, had such difficulties on set with lead Sylvester Stallone, that he swore he would never work again with an A-list actor.
Cannon later went on to direct I Still Know what you did Last Summer, before directing the successful US TV series, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
