Lucky or unlucky for The Woods release date
14th Aug 05
After the very impressive debut feature May from Lucky McKee, we were expecting big things, but the post-post-production phase of The Woods, his second feature as director, has been up and down more often than an inflatable mattress tester.
Originally planned for a September release from MGM, the film’s release was thrown into doubt when MGM was recently sold to Sony. Sony initially anticipated a wide release for September 16th, but then withdrew this date. Thankfully now, the good news is that the release date has finally been announced for September 2nd this year.
The bad news is that it will only be receiving a moderate release, which often means far less than 600 cinemas across the US, with very little promotion and etc.
Seems to us, either Sony are not entirely convinced about the quality of the film, or that it's so mind-blowingly fresh, smart and intelligent that they don't have a clue what to do with it. We're really hoping for the latter.
The Woods is a psychological horror story starring Patricia Clarkson, Agnes Bruckner, Bruce Campbell, Lauren Birkell, Jane Gilchrist, Emma Campbell, Gordon Currie and Rachel Nichols.
More Information
A neglected teenager named Heather (Agnes Bruckner) is dropped off by her parents at a remote all-girls boarding school deep in the forest. Watched over by sinister headmistress Ms. Traverse (Patricia Clarkson) and her staff, Heather is tormented by her classmates and is desperate to go home.
But when students start disappearing and she begins to have horrifying visions, Heather realizes things at the school are not what they seem. She only knows there's something out there in the woods - and it won't be letting her leave any time soon.
