P.W.S. Anderson on for Death Race 3000
24th Mar 05
Another day, another remake story. While some remakes can be quite good ideas (Black Christmas and Blue Sunshine for example) some remake ideas are just plain wrong, and the news that P.W.S Anderson is keen to remake Death Race 2000 probably fits into the latter.
Paramount will be backing Death Race 3000, a remake of the Roger Corman original which featured David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone as drivers in a race that involved running over pedestrians for points. Obviously there's a lot of potential here for upgrading a rather silly, but cool-concept b-movie, but given that it's Mr Resident Evil and AvP director taking the reins, it's not looking too good.
Indeed, Anderson has already revealed his thoughts for the upgraded version and is planning a mix of Road Warrior and road kill: "The original was so much about decimating pedestrians that the actual race was almost irrelevant, and I want to restore that. Set in 2020, ours is an ultraviolent, no-holds-barred race with heavily armed Escalades, Ferraris and Aston Martins."".
Hmm.. set in 2020 - so why is it called Death Race 3000 then? Alarm bells ringing already...
More Information
Death Race 3000 will be co-produced by Tom Cruise.
