Pride and Prejudice and Zombies book published
8th Apr 09
Jane Austen’s Regency classic collides with zombie horror at its best in the first of a new monster literary mash-up genre. Complete with romance and civilised sparring, social satire and rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms Jane Austen’s masterpiece into a gory comedy of manners for a twenty-first century generation of readers. A mysterious plague has fallen upon England and the dead are returning to life.
In the quiet village of Meryton, feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennett is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she is soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and handsome Mr Darcy. Elizabeth must call on all her kung fu training to combat the hordes of flesh-eating undead, not to mention a plague-stricken Mrs Collins, and Lady Catherine de Bourgh, whose deadly ninja skills have no equal.
Austen admirers will be curious, horror buffs will be captivated and legions of new fans will be charmed by the latest adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.
‘‘It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains. Never was this truth more plain than during the recent attacks at Netherfield Park, in which a household of eighteen was slaughtered and consumed by a horde of the living dead..’’
“I have told Miss Bennett several times, that she will never be half my equal unless she practices more; and though Mrs Collins has no dojo, she is very welcome, as I have often told her, to come to Rosings every day, and spar with my ninjas, provided she promises to kill no more of them. She would be in nobody's way in that part of the house..”
Jane Austen is the author of Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, and lived in Hampshire.
Seth Grahame-Smith is the author of How to Survive a Horror Movie and The Big Book of Porn. He lives in Los Angeles.
